It can be super frustrating when you have all the ideas, inspiration, and motivation to write a new story… but you have no idea what point of view you should write it in.
After all, which point of view is best? First person? Second person? Third person close? Third person omniscient? Which POV is best for your story? This is a question I’ve been asked quite a lot lately so I thought it would be a good idea to tackle this topic in today’s video.
Like anything with writing, there are pros and cons to every point of view. But depending on your writing style, personality, and the number of characters you’re following, choosing the right point of view can be crucial to writing a great story.
So today’s episode of WritersLife Wednesday is short and sweet! We talk about:
- which point of view is best for your story
- the pros and cons to all of them
- the difference between “head hopping” and 3rd person omniscient
- when it’s okay to bend the rules and have fun with POV
Let’s talk.
Let’s talk point of view! What POV do you always go back to? Is there a point of view you don’t usually write but you really want to try? (For me, that’s definitely third person. I might even write my next book entirely in 3rd person ahhh!!) Let’s discuss all this in the comments below.
