Character voice is one of the hardest things to pull off as a writer. Why? Because you’re writing something in such a way that makes it sound like you’re not the one who wrote it. Sounds almost impossible, right? Well, good news: it’s not.
Here’s the thing: we don’t want our readers to have no idea which characters’ head they’re inside of without looking at the chapter heading. We want our characters to be recognizable because of their unique voices. We want a reader to be able to open to ANY PAGE of our book and immediately know whose POV it is because of the voice.
There are 7 techniques I use to pull off unique and recognizable character voice in my stories. It actually has taken me years of writing experience to develop these techniques and figure out which ones work. And today I’m going to share them with you!
